Karen van Kampen MHSc, CHE

Karen is an accomplished communications strategist, health leader, entrepreneur and author with over 15 years of experience.

Karen advises clients on strategy, corporate development, partnerships, marketing and communications. She has managed businesses and developed and communicated brands across a wide range of industries.

She is former Chief Communications and Operating Officer of an innovator in virtual sleep services, where she oversaw operations, partnerships, and communications. Karen was Chief Communications Officer at two companies in the food and drink industry. She has served as Managing Editor at National Post Business magazine and was a senior writer at the Calgary Herald.

Karen’s latest book, The Brain Never Sleeps: Why We Dream and What it Means for our Health, will be published by Simon & Schuster Canada in 2026. She is the author of The Golden Cell (HarperCollins) and her writing has appeared in many local and national publications. Karen is an instructor of creative non-fiction and freelance public health and medical writing at the University of Toronto’s School for Continuing Studies.

She holds a MHSc (Health Administration) from the University of Toronto and the Certified Health Executive leadership designation. Karen has a Bachelor of Journalism and an Honours Bachelor of Arts (English).
